Thanks for this post. We have a similar issue. Our 3month old is happy, smiley and doesn’t seem to care to eat. We had sort of been force feeding him the past week or so and it was taking up to an hour to eat. We’ve tried 3 bottles, high, med and low flow nipples, took him to DR to rule our allergy, teething, ear ache, acid reflux all that. He was eating about 5-6 ounces every 4-5 hours and recently down to 3-4 ounces. DR told us to let him go till he actually cried to eat, that maybe we are feeding him too soon. He’s gaining weight, poops, pees enough etc…So now he’s going like 7 hours and eating about 6 ounces, thou there are time when he will only eat 4 even after 7 hours. But he’s a happy baby, not crying or anything. When we try to “make” him eat he cries, locks his lips and at times just plays with the nipple. I truly thought it could have been “silent acid reflux” as he does not spit up, but DR doesn’t seem to think that’s the case. He doesn’t cry after being fed or anything. Last night he woke up, sucked down 6 ounces with NO issue, burped and went back to sleep. Is anyone experiencing anything like this? If its even sort of normal I will stop worrying about it, if not I want to fix the issue now. I fear if he’s on eating 20 ounces a day he won’t continue to gain weight. Why would he go from eating constant 6oz bottles every 4-5 hours and now go so much longer. CONFUSED!

I'm glad its not just my daughter by: Anonymous
My Daughter is 8 1/2 months old and we have had the same issues since around 4 months. She was breast fed till then but in that last month it was a struggle just to keep her on one side for longer than 2-3 mins. When she switched to formula and started daycare it went from bad to worse. She would take 30mins to an hour for 4 oz. My friend reccomended a faster nipple flow for her bottles which has worked great!! Turned out she was just frustrate that she couldn't get the milk fast enough and would give up frustrated.
My issue now is that she is in daycare and will only drink at her low 2 1/2 oz between 9am-5pm and her high 12 oz. She is growing just fine and is a happy active baby albeit below 5% she is on her own growth curve. My next step will be my pediatrician. I can't take the stress of it anymore. I just want her to be healthy and happy. Please post again if any good tis or ideas on how to fix this.
