Common childhood problems -conditions and diseases in children
This section is dedicated to common childhood problems. It is said that a child is not a miniature adult. It is not very easy to define a normal child. Many of the conditions considered as abnormal in adults may be normal in children and vice versa. For example What is considered as normal blood pressure for an adult will be abnormal for a small child. Often a mother imagines that her child is having fever when in fact the temperature is normal. Blood sugar level which is normal for a newborn baby would be highly abnormal for an adult.
Children also suffer from frequent illness partly because their immune system is developing. Occasionally it may be difficult to decide what amounts to disease and what represents a normal variation. While delay in prompt treatment when needed can lead to complications unnecessary treatment can also be harmful. Below you will find articles discussing conditions unique to infants and children and the diseases affecting them.
