Distance healing -fact or mythA unique feature Reiki therapy is distance healing. A person can heal another person who is living in some other place. How can this happen? This need not astonish us as we are living in the age of telemedicine and wireless communication. A radiologist can receive images of X-rays and scanning from a far away place and give his report. A surgeon sitting in one continent can guide an operation in another continent. All these are possible because of certain waves not known earlier. Reiki is more advanced and does not need the help of any equipment other than the human mind for achieving distance healing. Scientists have recently begun to understand the capabilities of human mind, which is a powerful instrument. Ancient Indian Yogis knew how to harness the powers of the mind through meditation, just as modern scientists have found out how to harness electricity, infrared radiation and ultrasound waves. Recently lot of research has been done in the field of what is known as Paranormal phenomenon. Many people like Edgar Cayce and Kuda Bux have demonstrated the powers of clairvoyance (ability to see something beyond the range of physical vision, clairaudience (ability to hear sound at a distant place and not normally audible) psychokinesis (ability to move an object using mental power without touching the object) under controlled conditions. Reiki practitioners are taught to use their will power to invoke the power of cosmic spirit and then utilize it to achieve what then want. It is closely related to yoga. The possibilities are limitless. One can even control the mind of others and make them do anything. The consequences can be disastrous if these powers are abused. Ancient Indian scriptures use the analogy of space inside a pot to explain how each individual seems to have his/her own identity even though he/she is nothing but the cosmic spirit. If a pot is covered it appears as though the space inside the pot is distinct from the space outside. If the pot is taken from one place to another it appears as though the space inside the pot also moves. But in reality the space inside the pot is one with the space outside. Moreover the material used for making the pot also has space in it. It is made of atoms and we know that there is space between the subatomic particles. Hence the space inside the pot is continuous with the space outside the pot through the space in the material used to make the pot. In the same way though the same cosmic spirit resides in every organism each organism seems to have a distinct entity. The various physical forms are like different pots. For a person who is fully convinced of the oneness of the entire creation distance makes no sense. He can, by the mere exercise if his will direct healing vibrations towards any person in any part of the world and achieve distance healing without leaving his place.
