The number 7408372 in the first one represents my affiliate ID for that program. The other parts of the url are same for all the affiliates. Similarly in the second example arunkumarsuri is my ID in that program. Other parts of the url are same for all the affiliates.

In this way every affiliate gets his/her own unique ID in a program. When a person signs up for the program through any affiliate ID the system keeps track of the ID and places the new member under that affiliate. If the new member purchases anything the referring affiliate gets commissions.

While there are too many affiliate programs (check Google using the key words affiliate programs) you should select only those you can promote. Here are a few guidelines on how to select good affiliate programs.

1) It should allow free sign up. You should be able to study the system and decide for yourself whether it is suitable or not. While there are a few good paid only programs be wary of any affiliate program which demands money just for joining.

2) It should clearly explain how you can make money. Do not believe those programs which tell you that your money will get doubled or tripled within a few weeks or months.

3) Do not get carried away by programs which ask you to make a payment upfront to get access to all the secrets of making money.

4) The program should have a section on training. Those joining the program should be taught how to promote that program and benefit from that program.

5) Find out whther the company has a good tracking system to trace your sales.

6) Before investing money find out all the benefits of a paid member.
