Spiritual development is essential for peace and happiness in life

Modern man is neglecting the spiritual development of children. A spiritual attitude to life acts as cement to bind members of a family together.

Good family life acts as a springboard for people to attain greater heights.

Living for each other motivates people to achieve more as there is a strong desire to live. Many problems in families are due to ego clashes, greed and jealousy.

These powerful negative emotions are enough to destroy our peace of mind. Reading spiritual books and spiritual quotes can help people to create good family relationships and a congenial atmosphere at home.

Stories for moral and spiritual development of children

Unfortunately most of the people today are too busy amassing wealth and pursuing sensual pleasures and do not devote any time for their spiritual development. This attitude is responsible for many of the problems afflicting mankind today.

If both husband and wife have a spiritual outlook they will try to inculcate it in their children. A family in which everyone has a spiritual attitude will be full of peace and harmony. Psychological problems are less common in such families.

It is a very good practice to pray together at home or go to a place of worship together once in a while. Fear of sin and love for God put people on the right track. A firm belief that we are essentially spiritual in nature enables us to see the world in the right perspective.

Otherwise a person will be running around like a headless chicken in this world trying to accumulate and enjoy everything this world has to offer but losing himself. Such people repent during old age that their lives are empty and devoid of joy, peace or meaning. Hence spiritual development should be accorded greater priority.

This world is like a drama and we are all enacting our roles. But we forget our true nature and completely identify ourselves with the roles we play. Thus we become victims of the six inner enemies-uncontrolled lust, anger, greed, attachment to worldly objects, egoism and jealousy.

When we realize that our real nature is spiritual and that we are all sparks of the same universal spirit we can never even think of cheating and hurting each other.

When members of every family have such an attitude to each other and extend it gradually to others the Kingdom of Heaven will descend on this earth.

It is easy to influence young children. Hence parents should impress upon children from early age the need for moral and spiritual values using stories and parables laying down a strong foundation for good character.

It is also essential to explain to children that different people call God by different names and worship or adore him in different ways.

This paves the way for religious tolerance and harmony. It is not enough to merely tell a child to be good. He should be made to realize that he reaps what he sows. Once a person understands fully the inexorable law of cause and effect which operates without fear or favor, he will desist from indulging in immoral and criminal activities.

Schools should also set aside some classes for spirituality information. Spiritual outlook can also ensure sound mental health which in turn can influence physical health.

We often hear about children from so called respectable families committing heinous crimes like rape and murder. Imagine the plight of parents of such children. Imagine the predicament of the parents of a person who is sentenced to death for perpetrating such atrocious crimes.

Words are not adequate to describe their sorrow. Parents should accept primary responsibility for shaping the character of children and a spiritual attitude goes a long way in helping them achieve this objective.
